Do any of you ever wonder why you have a humidifier? And then you remember that your heating and air conditioner guy said that you needed one, and you thought, “That doesn’t tell me why I need one but he is the professional.” Well, now it is time that you find out why you need one.

First off, the point of a humidifier is to bring humidity into your household. You want this because low humidity can affect your health by drying out your mucous membranes and causing respiratory issues. So, that means you can get fewer bloody noses in the winter because your humidifier will make your mucous membranes moister and less susceptible to bleeding.

If you are sick and feel lousy, consider putting a portable humidifier in your bedroom at night, in addition to your whole-house humidifier that is installed on your HVAC equipment, it can actually speed up the healing process! Whenever my kids are sick, I stick one in their room. It helps coughs at night, and a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil can help to relieve congestion. Believe it or not, a humidifier can help with your loud snoring as well. The moisture in the air keeps your throat from drying out. The best part is that you will wake up feeling better!

Another annoying condition low humidity can cause, is static electricity. This static can cause dust and other small particles to be very hard to clean up off of electrically charged surfaces. The static electricity can also cause an annoying, and sometimes painful shock when you reach for a doorknob or light switch.

Another problem that low humidity can cause, is wood furniture and floors can shrink and even crack. Crown molding can pull away from the ceilings, and caulk can shrink, which will cause gaps. It can also affect books and other such items too!

We at Leith Heating & Cooling highly recommend that you get your home a reliable humidifier. Your comfort is important to us. Give us a call to discuss. We are happy to answer any questions you might have!
